Inspection Policy

Last updated: June 2025

1. Purpose

CarFriend's inspection process is the foundation of buyer trust. Every vehicle listed on the Platform undergoes a comprehensive 200-point inspection conducted by a CarFriend-certified inspector. This policy describes the inspection process, grading system, and limitations.

2. Inspection Coverage

The inspection covers the following sections:

  • Car Details: Registration, ownership history, insurance, RC status, odometer verification
  • Exterior: Body panels, paint condition, glass, lights, tyres, wheels
  • Electricals: Battery, alternator, wiring, sensors, dashboard warnings
  • Engine: Oil levels, cooling system, belts, mounts, exhaust, starting behaviour
  • Steering & Suspension: Steering play, shock absorbers, wheel alignment indicators
  • AC & Comfort: Air conditioning performance, blower, vents, heating
  • Photos & Media: 27 standardised photo slots, walkaround video, engine audio

3. Grading System

Each vehicle receives a score out of 100, translated into a grade:

  • Grade A (85–100): Excellent condition — minimal to no issues found
  • Grade B (70–84): Good condition — minor issues, well-maintained
  • Grade C (50–69): Fair condition — moderate issues, needs attention
  • Grade D (below 50): Poor condition — significant issues present

4. Photo Documentation

All photos are taken by the inspector using the CarFriend app and are automatically converted to WebP format for efficient delivery. Photos are geo-tagged and timestamped. Number plates are masked before buyer display to prevent direct owner contact.

5. Limitations

The inspection is a visual and functional assessment conducted at a point in time. It does not include:

  • Dismantling or invasive examination of sealed components
  • Assessment of conditions that were not present or not visible at inspection time
  • Prediction of future mechanical failures

6. Re-Inspection

CarFriend reserves the right to order a re-inspection if the report quality is deemed insufficient or if the vehicle's condition has materially changed since inspection. Sellers must cooperate with re-inspection requests.

7. Report Validity

Inspection Reports are valid for 30 days. If a vehicle does not sell within 30 days of inspection, a re-inspection may be required before re-listing.

8. Disputes

Disputes about inspection findings must be raised within 48 hours of the auction close and vehicle handover. Refer to our Grievance Redressal Policy.
